Still on driving restriction?

I had a robotic assisted laparascopic hysterectomy on October 25th. I have four external incisions and a vaginal incision (uterus removal). How long should I be on driving restriction? My doctor said that I must not be under the influence of narcotics (which I am not); and that I must be able to slam on the brakes. When have others felt comfortable to do this?

Re: Still on driving restriction?

I had a TAH, so my scar is a bit bigger than yours....but it was a full 6 weeks before I was comfortable driving...I tried at 3 weeks and had to let my dd take over.....I tried again at almost 5 weeks and did better...by 6 weeks I was in pretty good shape driving....

Re: Still on driving restriction?

I drove at 10-11 days after but only short distances and by 2 weeks I was driving normal amounts and even drove 1.5 hours to my sister's house at 16 days. I had daVinci on Oct. 19th and was off all stronger pain meds after 4 days. My Dr. said I could drive as long as I was not on the heavy pain meds and if it did not hurt, I did ask at my 2 week appointment if it was OK to drive the 1.5 hours to my sister's and they said yes.---Lisa
