Too much or not enough estrogen
Hi ladies. I'm at 8 plus weeks and using estrogel daily. Week bfore last I would have a few hot flashes a day and then last week I had none!! I hadn't changed my dose and can't figure out why some days I'll have 5 and some days none.
We mostly know what symptoms are with low levels of estrogen but I'm curious what are symptoms of too much? Anyone know??
I haven't felt good in days. Anxiety, pain, and a bad taste in my mouth ugh!
I lowered my estrogel to 1/2 pump daily but it hasn't changed anything yet.
Thanks for any help or suggestions

Hot flashes can happen when there is a change in levels of estrogen. It can happen when your level is going up quickly or down. Try keeping a symptom journal to track how you sleep, activity level, mood, etc ...it will help figure out what is going on. Some women just feel their medication taking effect more than others. I am very sensitive to estrogen levels. I get mood swings, headachey, insomnia....I use the femring (vaginal) because it is more steady than other transdermal estrogen replacement therapies. Since you are only at 8 weeks, your body is using up the "leftover estrogen"...it is expected that you would have a lot of fluctuation until your body "settles down" and adjusts. Good luck!

Ok thanks I figured that also but just haven't heard anyone talk about the symptoms of too much estrogen.
I do keep the journal and still not sure if it's too much or not enough.
Since the hot flashes stopped for a few days I assumed my levels were high ??
I'm so lost ;(

It takes time to get to "know your body" after a hysterectomy. Keeping a journal is a great way to get to know what works so it is fabulous that you are keeping one.
If your hot flashes stopped that means you are on the right track. It doesn't necessarily mean you now have too much estrogen. There is a Symptom List under Resources....Hormone Jungle Articles called Too much Estrogen, Too little. It is very helpful.
My symptoms for too much estrogen is tender swollen breasts, retain fluid esp around my middle, headaches, edgy, bossy attitude, can't fall asleep like too much caffeine feeling. Everyone is so different so it is very complicated. Educating yourself will help you not feel so lost. Screaming To Be Heard, by Elizabeth Vliet, MD is a great book.
