Heat or ice?????

im a lil confused,,, after surgery, is it best to put a heating pad on your stomach or a cool ice pack? i've read posts that both are good to use. Does anyone have any experiences of heat or ice that worked best for you?

Re: Heat or ice?????

When I was in the hospital, I was given a heating pad and told it encouraged healing.

Re: Heat or ice?????

When I was in the hospital I was given exclusively ice packs because it reduced the pain and swelling in my belly. Ice would numb the incision. I guess different hospitals/different doctors/different theories.

Re: Heat or ice?????

I used both heating pads and ice packs. The heating pad worked with general aches and pains, and the ice packs were helpful when I had swelling.

In the hospital, I had a wonderful huge heating pad that had warm water flowing through it, and it was like a heating pad and massage all in one!

Re: Heat or ice?????

I haven't gone to the castle yet but I'm planning on having an icepack on my incision and a heating pad on my back for cramping. I'm sure the nurse will give you instructions for what to use and how often.
