when to start hormone pills

It has been 2 weeks since my hysterectomy. My ovaries were removed. My Dr. said that he gave me an injection of estrogen during the surgery that should last a few weks. Last week when I went to my post-op appointment he gave me my prescription for the estrogen pills but was vague about when to begin them. The pharmacist also was no help. I do not want to experience the menopausal symptoms so I want to start them before it's too late. However, I also don't want too much estrogen in my system either. Any ideas about how to know when I should start the pills?

Re: when to start hormone pills

I think typically the injections last about a month, but may depend on the doseage and strength given. Unfortunately, you may not be able to time this so you have no symptoms. Even on hrt, you can still have symptoms as your levels may fluctuate as your body uses up its stored reserves of hormones and recovers from surgery.

I would give a call to the doctor and ask him how long the shot is suppose to last. I would also suggest keeping a daily journal of how you are feeling.
