surgery delay 3 wks - going nuts - this happen to anyone else?

I was scheduled for Nov. 12 but doc office called this afternoon and told me I would have to be rescheduled for Nov. 29. I had started mentally prepping and getting things ready around the house. Now I am going insane! I counted the days and I'm going to have yet another period!(I'm still bleeding from the one last month! On the 12th day now.) I look pregnant from the fibroids and I have stress incontinence so I'm wearing a pad whether I have my period or not. I'm so miserable I could :scream:!!!

Has this ever happened to anyone else and how do you cope with the delay?

surgery delay 3 wks - going nuts - this happen to anyone else?

I didn't have my hyst delayed, but one of my laps was delayed a month so my doctor could have a bowel surgeon on standby. I didn't exactly cope. After I hung up the phone I yelled and jumped up and down and stamped my feet. Then I hunkered down to wait. I'd like to say there was some ritual I used to calm myself, but there wasn't. I just gradually got used to the idea.

I'm so sorry! It's really distressing, isn't it?

Hi Hausfrau, I can sympathize with you, although my situation was a little different.

I had a LEEP procedure in January of this year, and then received the news that what was thought to be removal of pre-cancerous cells turned out to be actual cervical cancer. Was sent to a GYN ONC who gave me two options of treatment, one being a hysterectomy, which is what I wanted.

However, surgery wasn't scheduled until March because Dr. said that inflammation caused by LEEP had to be gone before he could proceed. From the time I received the news about the cancer until surgery was 7 weeks. I was totally frustrated, scared and didn't know what to do with myself for all that time, as I wanted the cancer out NOW, not in 7 weeks!

Luckily, I found HysterSisters and had very supportive family and friends. Although the wait was almost tortuous at times, I got through it with support and you will too. Remember, we're all here for you!!

Best wishes and 's

Hi Tina

My goodness, girl, you really have had it rough. Gosh, I feel guilty for even complaining. God Bless You. I feel lucky to have only 20 days left. How are you doing NOW? I hope you are doing better now that you've had time to recover. I'm sure it was a relief to get all that over with. By the way, what is a LEEP?

rescheduled

My original date for TAH BSO was 9/25. I went for preop about 4 days before. The night before my surgery, my NP called to say surgery was put on hold due to suspicious EKG. I was then sent to a cadiologist. He scheduled an echo cardiogram stress test. Then I waited another week for results. I had a rapid heart rate. They fixed that with a pill. Then had to wait for rescheduling of surgery.10/25. I'm 2 wks postop now. That second wait for surgery was the hardest. I was really ready the first time. The wait is the worst part. It will be ok though. I feel really good now. You will too. Hang in there. JH

Hi Hausfrau, your concern for me has put a big smile on my face. Here I am trying to help you get through this wait and you're worried about me!!

A LEEP procedure is done under general anesthesia (at least in my case)where they remove a deep cone shaped part of the cervix with the idea of removing suspicious tissue. It is then sent for pathology testing, which is where they found the cancer cells for me. It was done in the outpatient surgery department.

I then had my TAH BSO, along with removal of the surrounding lymph nodes. I was very fortunate that the pathology testing after my hyst showed all cancer to be removed. Now I just have to have frequent PAP smears for a five year period, and if all the path results remain negative, I will be considered cancer free. I have had no problems since my surgery, so I'm very happy to report that I am doing great!!

Now, don't feel bad about posting about your surgery delay. It is very frustrating and it is quite difficult to have to wait. Keep focused on yourself and lean on us for support!
