hot flashes & such

How soon after removal of both ovaries would one be expecting menopause symptoms? I had my LSH/BSO on Monday & was actually given an estrogen patch right before going into the OR. I wasn't given any other & was told by my Dr that we will get the all set up at my 1 week post op appt. So far I feel great, wth no symptoms, just pain from the procedure. I find it hard to believe the patch they gave me is working that well already.

That's great that you're doing well. There really is no set time frame for symptoms to appear and everyone is different. Some get symptoms immediately, some don't get any at all. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones.

I was getting a hot flash every day or so, and night sweats about three nights a week before the surgery. (I just turned 50.) Since the surgery, and with both ovaries removed and no HRT, I get a hot flash a day and no night sweats.

Beats me how we're supposed to make sense of this! LOL

Thanks for the responses. I really have been expecting them to come on any time as I had them even before my surgery & usually a few a day. I suppose it could just be the patch working well on the pre surgery one & the post surgery ones have yet to arrive. I really do hope I this is it though. I would be exstatic!

I had an appt at 1 week post-op & the nurse said I certainly would have them already with my ovaries gone. It looks like the patch is doing it's job! I feel teriffic!!!!

For me, it took a few weeks. I thought I was having hot flashes at first, but by about week 5, I knew what I'd had weren't them. Even a few months later I was still developing symptoms. The worst for me is the memory loss. I feel like my brain is swiss cheese sometimes.
