Leg pain, shoulder pain and foot pain 2 years after complete hysterectomy - No HRT

I am 2 years post complete hysterectomy. I had none of these issues before hysterectomy. NO HRT (breast cancer history)

Shoulder pain
calf pain
ankle and foot pain
hip and knee pain

For six mos after my surgery i felt great. Then the pain started gradually. First my hands, then I couldn't find a cool spot in the bed to get comfortable. Then it was my heels. All these pains have subsided. Now I have shoulder pain, hip, knee ankle and foot pain. So much so I sometimes just want to stay in bed because of the anticipation of pain. The pain will subside once I am up and moving gradually. When I sit for any length of time it is very painful to get up and move around.

I am willing to look into the bio identical hormones but I'm not sure what they are or where to start my research or which dr I should ask. I just know that other than this pain, I would feel great. It really keeps me from doing a lot of things I would otherwise enjoy. I'm only 54 years old and should be much more active than I am.

Only in the last week have I found ANY relief for the shoulder pain.
I purchased one of the SideSleeper pillows (the ones advertised on TV) at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The last week has been the first time in four years I haven't stayed awake at night due to pain.
I don't know if it will help you, but I'm going to buy "spare" pillows for when this one wears out and for traveling.

Vinboden, I hear you. The pain is one of the reasons that I have stayed on the estrogens. Sorry, I can't do anything but commiserate.

My recovery was going along smoothly when I woke up one day with horrible shoulder pain. I was a few days shy of going back to work and I was still on my restrictions, so I had not done anything strenuous to injure it. I have trouble putting on shirts or any motion where I have to raise my arms over my head or reach to the side. It literally feels like the bones lock up. I have woke up several times with my arms totally asleep (tingling and numb). It has been hurting like this for the past six weeks. I gave in and took an 800mg tablet of Motrin and that did offer a great deal of relief but not 100%. My legs feel very very weak and I have achy hips, but nothing like the pain in my shoulders. What is this from? Is it the lack of estrogen?

I am just reading your post from 12/6/10. I was looking for answers to my joint pain, and found your post. You symptoms and age are close to me, and I too am thinking of BHRT. Can you tell me what progress you have made in reducing your joint pain? Did you get on BHRT? I pray you are well now. Any info is so appreciated. Beth

bioidentical hormones, I use a compounding pharmacy that does mail orders, I was the first one that my doc prescribed this, now they have divigel which is a gel you rub on your thigh once a day, that is sold at most phramacys.

Thank you for this post ladies. I think I'll be making an appt with my doc. I'm almost 4 months post op and have had fairly severe pain in my right shoulder since the week following my TAHBSO. I'm 'only' 33, but feel like I'm 90 when trying to move around etc. It never occurred to me that this was an estrogen issue.

Have you seen your PCP or an orthopod? Also, you might want to get your labs drawn for Vit D. What do you do for exercise? Are you doing any weight bearing exercises?
