Anyone use estrogel after BSO?
Hi there
I have just scheduled hyster and LSO, (right ovary removed last year), so I am trying to do my homework on coping with what is to come.
I have been on estrogel for nearly 10 months as I have struggled with hormonal fluctuations since I had the right ovary removed.
I am currently on 2 squirts a day and my gyno has recommended staying on this through and after my surgery - I realise I may need to change dose but he has suggested this as a starting point at least.
When I first discussed HRT with my family doctor I remember her saying they usually use patches or tablets for surgical menopause as it is more constant, but gyno didn't seem worried.
I like that the gel dosage is so easy to adjust and control but I'm worrying that the gel is not a good option. Is anyone else using the gel or a cream? I don't want it wearing off a few hours after I put it on!!
Not sure this is relevant but I'm 34 - does your age determine what HRT method is more suitable at all??
Would really appreciate any thoughts you girls have... feeling rather out of my depth at the moment

Re: Anyone use estrogel after BSO?

I use a compounded cream for my ert. I've been using it for about 11 years now. It has worked well for me. I tried various other methods of delivery, but for me, the cream was what worked the best.
Hormones are not one size fits all. We each need to find what is going to work for us. We all need to start somewhere. If you have had a good experience with the gel, why not keep using it after surgery? You can always change.

Thanks Kim
I have seen posts that say the absorption from patches changes with where on the body it is placed. Do you find this with the cream also?

Yes, I sure did. When I started I applied to my upper arms. After doing this for awhile we determined that as my arms were quite thin, the absorption was too rapid. I than started applying to my inner thighs. That is where I still apply my creams today.

Thanks Kim that is really helpful
I notice I get heart palps if I apply the gel to my arms in the evening, but as I have my own cycle at the moment it's hard to tell what's what!
Thanks again
