TAH LSO 12/28/10 Dr will only give me hormones for 6months

I am scheduled to have hysterectomy with removal of my remaining left ovary/tube on 12/28/2010. My Dr consulted with my surgical oncologist and they will only give me estrogen for 6 months after surgery and then will wean me off. Although I was not diagnosed with breast ca, I did have abnormal cells. Atypical ductal hyperplasia, so they don't want me to have HRT for more than the 6 months due to my increased risk for cancer. I'm really worried about how I will do without hormones. I have hormonal migraines prior to my period every month and moodiness that I take fluoxetine for two weeks prior to my menses which really helps, but what is life like without any hormone replacement? Please advise or give me some hope please....

Hope it helps, but I haven't done HRT. Both ovaries removed, & I feel great. I almost had a migraine soon after surgery, but after that, no problems.

Hi drafter, thank you for sharing this. That is very encouraging to read how well you're doing! I spoke with a close friend last night who had Tah and she feels great too. I'm going to stay positive =)

My GYN suggested acupuncture instead of HRT, and I know antidepressants are used for hot flashes and mood changes, so there are options. Compounded hormones are still hormones. Natural menopause I did for yrs with no HRT but I admit with no ovaries I did start it----but other ladies say they have little or no symptoms and feel just fine. You might be one of them. Good plan to stay positive----it does help.

Thank you for the encouragement greyown. Did you try acupuncture?

I have used acupuncture for past problems but insurance didn't cover it now so I didn't try it for menopause. But my GYN said it can really help, so it sounds worth considering.

Thank you for responding about the acupuncture. I've never tried it, but may consider it if other healthy living strageties aren't enough to help me manage.
