Will I have menapuase symptoms with total hysterctomy?
This may be a silly question but I really don't know the answer and would like to . I hade a total hysterectomy 4 years ago. My doctor put me on the ville patch right away and I have not been off it since. I've not had any menapuase symptoms (that I'm aware of) other than possibly the lower sex drive. What I'm wondering is - will I go through any symptoms such as hot flashes since I am using the ville? Also, is there someplace I can look to see what all the symptoms "would" be?
Thanks!

Re: Will I have menapuase symptoms with total hysterctomy?
Hello!
It's not a silly question.
By definition, a total hysterectomy is removal of the uterus and cervix. A partial hysterectomy is removal of the uterus only, leaving the cervix intact. Removal of the ovaries is a surgery called oophorectomy, which isn't a hysterectomy of any type but the surgery is often done in conjunction with a hysterectomy.
I'm not sure from your Member Survey if you have zero, one or both ovaries but in any event, chances are good if you discontinue using the Vivelle Dot estrogen patch you will experience menopause symptoms. Any change in hormone levels, whether up or down, can trigger symptoms. To get an idea of what to expect other than the usual hot flashes and night sweats, check out the information in this link: Menopause Checkpoint.
I hope this helps!
