HRT & Itching!
Has anyone experienced intense itching (all over) when taking HRT? I am 5 months post op and have tried Estradiol 1mg & Vivelle .50 but with no success because the itching was so intenst I had to quit taking it. Now I have joint pain all over, a little insomnia & just a general feeling like I'm in a fog! HELP!

HRT & Itching!
i was debating replying to this but...i had lavh 12/7 kept ovaries, i was having bad itching two weeks post op, it was weird, just my feet, almost like hives, and my head & my feet felt really hot, like a hot flash in just those locations, the dr put me on estradiol & my itching got better...however i kno ive been perimenopausal for bout 5 yrs., since aug. i have very dry skin where i have chub (backs of my legs & glutes), i wonder if its hormonally related cuz its in my fat zones, im off estradiol now, itching better except for my chub, i will talk to doc at six wk appt, did u talk to doc bout itching?

Re: HRT & Itching!
I talked to doc about itching and he took me off the Estradiol. Itching stopped almost immediately so I must be allergic to it. Now I'm only on 400 iu vitamin E twice a day. Just having problems with the joint pain (especially my neck) and the brain fog feeling I have 24/7. Also have ringing in my ears - not sure if that's related, but I just don't feel "right". I did feel like my old self when taking the Estradiol which is why I'd like to try again, but am afraid of the itching. My primary care doctor kinda blew it off and just said take Benadryl at night and it would stop the itching and help me sleep, but I just didn't like that option.

HRT & Itching!
id keep pushing the issue with the doc, could u try a diff. kind of estrogen?, its tough from what ive read i think it can take awhile to find the hormone balance, and its tough cuz u wanna feel like ur old self but not itch like crazy, someone on this site recommended a book, cant remember the xact name "the natural hormone cure" something like that, i ordered it, didnt get it yet, i can get back to u on that, besides pushing the issue with the doc id do some research too

Re: HRT & Itching!
hello i had to take prometrium due to bleeding and as a note aside my crazy itching (unrelated stopped)!!
i cannot tolerate prometrium in high doses for bleeding. but you might want to try a low dose for itching. i totally stopped itching and will want to continue taking it occasionally or you can cycle.

Golf
Intense itchy can drive a person crazy. I feel for you.
Sounds like your symptoms ...feeling "just not right", joint pain, ringing in the ears (can drive you crazy too), brain fog are all from low estrogen. Makes sense since you are now off estrogen now.
Maybe try a vaginal estrogen...like femring? It is an estradiol but it has to go into the blood stream before it converts to estradiol. Maybe it would be less irritating to your skin...?
When taking ert, estrogen goes to receptors all over the body...including receptors in nerve endings (which are abundant in the skin) and all women feel different responses from their ert. I feel it more on a brain level...headaches, depression, insomnia....instead of the normal hot flashes, or joints.
Also Omega 3 capsules are very helpful for dry itchy skin.
