ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

For anyone who has or has had Ovarian cancer could you please share your symptoms that you knew something was wrong. I have already had a partial hysterectomy for endometrial cancer but am now having to decide whether to have my ovaries out as well. It is a hard decision for me because I am only 27. Thank you in advance so very much!

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

I had no symptoms. My ovarian cancer was found incidentally when I had my ovaries out during hysterectomy. The hysterectomy was for endometrial cancer.

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

I understand that you feel you are just too young. I too feel the same. I am 33 and just had to do the hysterectomy, with ovaries out as well. My cancer was borderline ovarian cancer. The doc took the right one out 4 yrs ago, and 5 weeks ago, I had everything else out. With my borderline, I was having pain sitting, urinating, intercourse, IBS symptoms, and wt. gain. (By wt. gain, I mean, buy a pair of pants the week before, and not be able to wear them the next weekend.) And, I am a small framed person. (105lbs)

I do think that to have pain with ovarian cancer is not normal. I have heard my doc say that pain is usually not part of the disease, therefore, ovarian cancer is quite advanced by the time it was discovered.

What about your CA125 bloodwork? Mine just kept going up, and that was my deciding factor to have the complete hysterectomy performed.

I'm sorry you are at this place. Wishes of hope and peace to you as you make your decision.

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

Looking back, I had weight gain (from a normal of about 138 to 151 lbs.) which I attributed to lack of diet self control and no exercise; cessation of periods which -- hello, menopause; and then PAIN. First, the nagging pain of ovarian torsion (side/lower back, travelling down leg), and then the debilitating, can't-speak pain of a ruptured tumor that sent me to the hospital.

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

my first symptoms were: (1) watery discharge that lasted for a month or so...had pap smear, which turned out normal; (2) a month or so later, i had post-menopausal spotting/light bleeding plus in hindsight i realized i was having more b.m.'s than usual and also having to (3) urinate 3 times during the night. i also had this (4) pain on my right side, which i attributed to some of the exercise equipment i had been working out on. turned out that i had a 4 cm. mass on my right ovary (which was probably causing the intermittent pain). the mass was seen on a transvaginal ultrasound. this all started in sept. 2006, had first surgery in feb. 2007, when the diagnosis was made. by this time, it was considered advanced ovarian cancer, stage 3, grade 3, both ovaries, one fallopian tube and peritoneum affected. the watery discharge was what sent me to the dr., otherwise i felt great.

hope everything goes well for you.

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

I developed back pain which became increasingly worse. I had vague pelvic pain & pressure. Nausea was next. When I ate it would be possibly a teaspoon of soup & then I would feel very full and usually threw up. My abdomen became very big. Post menopausal bleeding. This was the weirdest symptom, pain in my upper thigh that would cause me to scream because the pain was severe.

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

I was 37/38 when night sweats began, that went on for a few month along with abnormal discharge that I had experienced before and my doc wrote it off as cysts, so I assumed it was again just cysts. After about 6 months of that I started peeing like a maniac, more than once an hour. Too busy to get in to see a doctor...Could kick myself still to this day. Finally one day I was laying down and noticed a lump in my abdomen. That's what made me go in. He still thought it was a cyst, a big one. During the hyst, they found it was cancer. I was lucky that it was only stage one, because I sure ignored a lot of symptoms for a long time.

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

Great question - I ended up in the emergency room with excruciating pain which resulted in surgery and the discovery of stage 1 ovarian cancer. The symptoms I had ignored included increased urination, increasing back pain and weight loss (even though I had a tummy that looked bloated). Just thought it was all attributable to age (near 50) and needing more exercise.

Re: ovarian cancer symptoms-what were yours?

I had a malignant ovarian germ cell tumor.

In retrospect, the first sign was noticing that my belly was not as flat. I too am a small frame/stature. It was not so great a difference that it was striking, no change in weight.

The second sign was feeling an abdominal mass that was mobile maybe 1-2 weeks later. I don't remember even what size, maybe golf ball?

The last was being doubled up in pain. but not recognizing it was pain, when the torsion occured.

I did not have any other symptoms. No change in bowel/bladder, no weight change, no pain, no bleeding, nothing.

I have had a history of ovarian cysts, and always noted those with the same feeling - some pain and a sensation that there was a " small full balloon" in my lower pelvis applying pressure. Sorry....hard to describe.

I currently have another cystic tumor and note it with occassional mild pain....very similar to the benign ovarian cysts. No other symptoms.

Hope it is helpful. I realize that it's been a while since you posted.
