I need pros & cons of HRT. I haven't decided yet

Please help, those of you with knowledge. It's been 6 weeks since my TAH and I have some mild hot flashes, but somerimes they get on a roll and will last several hours of hot...cold...hot..cold... WAY annoying!
Should I be avoiding HRT?
I take prednisone (bone loss is an issue)
there is cancer in my family
mother and grandmother died from stroke
I'm diabetic
Oh, by the way, I'm not grumpy and no tears...yet

I was 46 when I had my hysterectomy. At age 54 now, I'm still using hormone therapy and plan to continue using it forever, so long as there's no sound medical reason for me to discontinue it. My doctor is fully on board with this plan. I am careful to keep up on my well woman checkups which include a mammogram, breast and pelvic exams and a vaginal vault smear (Pap). I also have periodic DEXA scans to keep track of any bone loss. So far, so good!
