Please don't think I'm gross!

This is kind of weird but I'm going to say it anyway. My TAH was 10/30/01. I'm doing very good. Getting a bit bored at home and tring not to overdo. Kind of hard. Anyway, this is my problem: I took stool softeners while in the hospital and for two days after I got home. My bowel movements have had a distincitive, weird smell that I attributed to the stool softeners. However, it's been a week or so without taking them and I still have the same smell. I'm not saying that my sh** don't stink, ha ha. But this smell is weird. Anyone else with this problem? I see my DR on Tuesday for my 2 wk exam and am going to ask him about it if I can get up the nerve. Kind of embarassing!
Also going to ask DR about sex. Hubby & I are so ready! I know we're going to have to start slow and take our time till we can go all the way. Thank God there are other things we can do.
Thanks for all the support I've received. This site is absolutely wonderful! Thanks ladies.

I really don't know about this one! Good plan to ask the doc. I wonder if it could be from the anesthetic which would still be in yr system?

Glad you are going to talk to doc about sex - 2 weeks is verrrrry early to try that so be sure to follow docs orders on that one!

Good luck with your recovery and remember to take it easy and rest lots.

Please don't think I'm gross!

Hello Jan, sorry, but I don't think I can help with this one either! Perhaps it is from the anesthesia...or are there any other things that could be contributing? I was thinking along the lines of antibiotics, new vitamins, change in diet, etc.....?

As far as sexual relations; you are still very early in your recovery. Please do be sure to check with your Dr., most Drs. don't clear their pts for relations until at least the six week post-op date.

Best wishes and 's

Please don't think I'm gross!

Hi Mrs. Larrabee,
I took stool softeners at first too - Colace, which has red dye in it. One day my stool had a red hue. I attributed it to the Colace, stopped taking it and all was fine. As for weird smells, I am about 3 weeks post op and still think my stool smells worse than usual. Maybe our noses have become highly sensitive?

Thanks gals. I, too, took Colace after I got home. Maybe it just lingers on, who knows? As far as sex goes, I'm not looking to rush into anything. I'm definetly going to talk to my DR tomorrow. What I meant to imply is that there are other things that my hubby & I can do before we can go all the way again. But I'm still waiting to get up to par again. Having good days and bad. Trying to take it easy as much as possible. Hubby is very loving and supportive and my "buddy". Also, have a five year old to keep up with but honestly, so far so good. Thanks again for all your great advice. All of you are great!
