What doctor do I see re HRT?

I had a hysterectomy 5 weeks ago, but he left one ovary. I also had rectocele and cycestocele repair & a bladder sling. A gynecologist did the hysterectomy but a urologist who specializes in prolapse problems did the rest and is the one following up on the surgery. Because of the extensive scarring he wants me to use estrogen cream, but due to some health issues I'm scared to try it. Before surgery my family physician had told me not to use any HRT. Now I am having depression problems, my face is chapped from crying & my husband is fed up with me. The urologist doesn't seem very sensitive to woman's issues. Should I stick with him to talk about HRT & possible alternatives, go back to the gynecologist, or talk to my family physician? Who helps you with these issues? How do you know if its hormones or just depression? I don't know where to start & have to go back to work soon. I'm 54.

Re: What doctor do I see re HRT?

My issue with HRT may be a special case because of my cancer risks but my family dr would not prescribe it at all, she told me to see the gyn. I doubt the Urologist would be the person to go to for anything hormone-wise beyond the cream or something to heal the vaginal tissue. Is it a Urogyn or a straight Urologist your seeing? I would suggest seeing the gyn for it since the family doc has already said nothing. If it makes you feel better if I remember 4-6 weeks post op was the worst period hormonally for me, I lost both ovaries and was thrown into surgical menopause. I think I was ready to kill my husband and had threatened divorce for no reason on several occasions, I would go from crying to laughing to rage in 60 seconds. It was crazy! Then at about 8 weeks it all mellowed out, I wasn't put on HRT until 6 months after my surgery and it was by the urogyn to heal my vaginal tissue.
