menopause clinic??
Hi, I am expecting to have a hysterectomy with my ovaries removed in the next month. I am 40 with a long family history of mental illness. I am trying to find a specialist to work with me though post op and menopause. Did anyone else go this route or did you find your GYN knowledgeable and accessible enough?? Lynn

Re: menopause clinic??
 Lynn,
Have you discussed these issues with your gyn? I would discuss them now, this way you will know if you need to go another route.

Yes I did. He was supportive. Just worried I won't like the specialist and wondering what everyone elses's experience was like. Lynn

Re: menopause clinic??
My gyn placed a patch on me immediately after surgery. When I started having issues later on, he just patted me on the arm and said "there, there, it will be okay." No suggestions. When I asked about compounded hormones I was told that the doctor did not prescribe vitamins/supplements. I than realized that while by gyn was a good gyn he was not knowledgeable about the hormonal issues I was facing. I continued to see him for my annual visits and some other problems, but never discussed hormones with him again.
I than went on a search to find a doctor who was. I did find a very knowledgeable pharmacist who helped me thru the worst while I was searching for a doctor. I did not go to a speciality clinic, but did find the doctor who was a good fit for me.
