Re: can i take over counter stuff instead of patch?

It sounds like you're using a generic patch based on your description. I've never tried them myself but from reading the message boards over the years, common complaints are the size of the patch and the difficulty members have in keeping it stuck on so it can work effectively.

A patch that isn't sticking won't deliver the proper amount of estrogen. You can try to cover the patch with an adhesive patch, such as Tegaderm. Some members use waterproof tape. If that doesn't work, ask your doctor for free samples of Climara and/or Vivelle Dot. I use Vivelle Dot myself and it works really well for me. It's changed every 3 1/2 days so it only needs to stay stuck on half as long as Climara and the generic you're using.

There are plenty of other options for hormone therapy if the patches aren't right for you. You can read about them in the four Estrogen Choices articles in this link: Hormone Jungle Articles.

Discuss your concerns about using hormones with your doctor. There are good reasons to use them but if you choose not to, ask about the non-hormone supplements available without prescription.

Let us know what you decide, okay?
