Started hrt, not sure I want to

Hi all

I am one week post op today. Dr. put me on HRT today (no ovaries), but I am not sure if I want to start HRT.

My mood is good, I still think bubby is HOT, my appetite is down, and aside from some completely manageable hot flashes, I am doing great. I was a very heavy bleeder before the op, and suffered from severe PMS, bloating, migraines, anemia, and cyclical fluctuations in appetite.

I was fit before the surgery, and I am a healthy weight (63kg, 5'2). I always eat very healthy.

Any thoughts?

Everyone is different. I didn't really think to ask about ert before surgery. A patch was placed on me immediately after surgery. It ended up not being what I stayed on, but the day I decided to take the patch off was a big mistake for me.

Your body may have stored reserves of hormones, so perhaps you take a wait and see approach. Do your research and see what the best choice for you is.

Re: Started hrt, not sure I want to

I had surgery last May and just started on hormones last week. I did fine with out them but decided because of my age (39) the risk was not worth it. I rarely had a hot flash and felt really good. It really depends on your age?

I also had terrible PMS, heavy periods and endo. Do what works for you and stay on this site...they have tons of great info.

Re: Started hrt, not sure I want to

I agree that you may want to wait and see. Everyone is different. My surgery was in early March 2010 and I did not feel any real effects (other than night sweats) for 4-5 months. But when it kicked in, it was very bad. Primarily I felt crushing anxiety, fatigue, depression and weight gain. But there are also many women who do just fine without hrt. It really is individual.

Re: Started hrt, not sure I want to

I waited to years to start HRT - due to severe endometriosis - so I had an extra push to postpone it. I had every possible symptom and after a whole 2 weeks on HRT I have to say I LOVE the break. You have to take it one day at a time and listen to you body - and talk to you provider. Best of luck!!

I would wait and see. You will know if you need it if your symptoms increase or get worse. I would be sure and take calcium with vitamin D for bone, and do exercises to strengthen bone.
