Emotional rollercoaster/depression??? Kept ovaries..

Hi,

I am a 25 year old woman. I had a TAH, cyst removed from my ovary, but kept my ovaries. I've been home for 2 weeks now recovering. One min I feel fine and the next I can't get out of bed. I cry for no reason, I'm sad, angry, and I feel worthless, hopeless, and sooooo overwhelmed.
Before the TAH I had an exploratory surgery which showed that I had an infection in my uterus, both my ovaries had cyst on it, and my ovary had fallen over and was stuck to my abdominal wall.
Has anyone else had these symptoms? Can this be hormal, or could I be going through menopause?

Thank you for sharing

Re: Emotional rollercoaster/depression??? Kept ovaries..

Hi.
At 2 weeks I could hardly get out of bed too. You have just gone through major, major surgery and please listen to your body when it screams at you to get back in bed. I hope you have a nice restful place to recover.
The emotional thing can hit hard. I kept my ovaries too and still went up and down like the waves on the sea. I remember crying at just about anything. I think I got sort of nostalgic about the events and people in my life. I was/am very thankful to make it through surgery, so that in and of itself made me weepy. your body will have alot of adjusting to do. I would keep your Dr. informed.
Wishing you lots of rest.

Re: Emotional rollercoaster/depression??? Kept ovaries..

I definitely think it can be hormonal. I went through this during week 2-3. Im getting much better now, but am using estradiol patch.
However, I also think our endocrine and metabolic systems can go whacky after such a traumatic surgery. Give it time. I don't have ovaries but have heard they can have blood flow permanently affected, or go through a temporary shock right after surgery. I'd let your Dr. know if it continues & talk about possible hormonal supplementation.

Re: Emotional rollercoaster/depression??? Kept ovaries..

Hey there! I kept my ovaries and was experiencing something similar. My doc and I kind of expected it as I suffer PMDD anyway, however after the surgery things just got worse and more amplified. He is putting me on a low dose of prozac for the 14 days that I have symptoms (basically when I ovulate) and I'm hoping it will help. Just talk with your doc about how you are feeling.

Re: Emotional rollercoaster/depression??? Kept ovaries..

Thank you ladies for sharing and for your advice I went to my Dr. yesterday and he put me on a low dosage of Paxil 10 mg. He gave me 7 months worth. He really didn't say much but that I can drive now and can slowly start doing more. Hopefully the medicine will help me get through this. Again, Thank you!

Re: Emotional rollercoaster/depression??? Kept ovaries..

I agree that our bodies have been through a lot. Remember, we've lost an organ, had some invasive treatments, needed to rely on others and the whole thing is overwhelming.

Physically, I've been really up and down as I expected. Psychologically, it's been the same case. The last two or three days, I haven't been able to stop crying. I'm not based in the UK and I work for an international organisation so luckily, I've got in touch with their helpline/counselling services to deal with this through telephone counselling. I think this may help a lot.

I hope you're having a better day and please treat the psychological symptoms as seriously as you take care of the physical ones
