Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
I had my LAVH on Feb 9th and I'm noticing that ever since my surgery I'm an emotional disaster! I didn't have my ovaries removed so that shouldn't be adding to anything, right? But aside from that, is this normal? This hormonal disaster is literally tearing me apart.
First, I was a nervous wreck BEFORE the surgery because...well...it was the time before my surgery. I hate that time. But I figured, once I had the surgery and whatnot I wouldn't be quite so crazy. That's not turning out to be the case so I was curious if this is "typical" of post-op with hysterectomies or if I should consider something else.

Re: Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
I had a TAH/BSO on Feb 1st, I am on HRT and I am still an Emotional mess! I am also having Hot Flashes & Insomnia. It's all side effects of surgical menopause. I cry about everything, I feel crazy it times because of it!lol There is places on this site for ideas about menopause. Are you on HRT? I hope you can find something to help you through this. Just know your not alone, you've have alot of sisters that are going through the samething. Best of Luck

Re: Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
I haven't had that experience but other ladies on here have been told by their doctors that ovaries can go to "sleep" during the surgery and take some time to "wake" up. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor and be patient with yourself as your feelings seem to be common after a hysterectomy.

Re: Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
My DiVinci was in Oct 2010 and I kept my ovaries.
I completely understand how your feeling. I thought I had turned Bipolar. One minute I was fine, the next crying uncontrollably, the smallest thing could make me angry at the world. It seemed as though I was at extreme highs and extreme lows in the blink of an eye.
The surgery alone is very traumatic to our bodies, a huge shock to our systems. It takes a while before things even out. It takes some of us longer than others. Whenever I get emotional (or whatever) I try to remind myself that its a hormone fluxuation and it will get better.
Hugs to you!

Re: Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
Hang in there! It gets better. At about 4-6 weeks I was a mess, but it started improving...gradually. I still have some days that I will get really emotional for no apparant reason and I'm at week 11 today!

Re: Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
I had my surgery on Feb 11, and ever since I have had MAJOR anxiety. I am having some night sweats, I got a terrible case of hives including lips so swollen that I was unrecognizable. I'm on a high dose of Prednisone for the hives. the first cycle of it didn't even begin to slow it down. We have determined that it was not the pain meds. Just don't know what it is yet. I think it's anxiety. Anyone have any suggestions? I also went to work for a couple of hours again yesterday and started bleeding a little. I just can't seem to get over this.

Re: Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
I am just over 2 weeks post op. I had some real bad days last week. Around 7-8 days post op. I started driving again Saturday, Feb. 26. I haven't seemed as bad since then. I think, for me, it was the having to depend on someone to go anywhere. I am still not driving far, but atr least I can get out by myself now. Hope this helps. It will get better. Here it was in the 70's and 80's last week. I have a convertible and I think it was hard on me, because I couldn't get out and put the top down.

Re: Emotional (hormonal?) mess ever since surgery
Wow, glad to read this. I am at 4 weeks exactly and had a TAH/BSO. I am either crying, feeling hateful or poor me syndrome. UGHHH, Ready for it to end. I am not on hormones wanted to try it without....may be a bad idea.
