Re: Not sure about HRT

HRT can be very helpful in the beginning if you are miserable with hot flashes and sweats. My doctor said I could take it for as long as I needed it. I took it for 7 years and now off and doing fine. HRT takes time for the body to use and adjust to it so it can take some patience to get the right dose and type of hormone.

Here is an article on Hormone Therapy for Surgical Menopause:

Re: Not sure about HRT

I am 3 weeks post op and I am having cold sweats constantly. I am really looking into bioidentical hrt. It is 100% natural and is a great alternative to synthetic hrt. I am scared too though. I was actually thinking of just taking nothing and seeing if I can just deal with it.

Re: Not sure about HRT

Hi Ladies

The most important thing to realize is that HRT is Hormone Replacement Therapy. It is replacing hormones that your ovaries would be giving you if you still had them.

This is done all the time with other hormones, without any quesiton at all. For example, insulin is a hormone and if a person is not making what they need, they are given insulin supplements. If someone's thyroid is too low, then they are given thyroid supplements without question.

Our bodies need a certain amount of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone to function properly. If we are fortunate enough to have healthy ovaries, then those ovaries give us these hormones for the rest of our lives. At menopause, the amounts decrease, but don't cease.

Bio-identical hormones are just like the ones our bodies make. They are used effeciently by our bodies. Talk to your Dr about your choices. Then, talk to a compounding pharmacist about your choices. There is no need to suffer.

I am healthier now than I have ever been, and much of it is due to the fact that I am hormonally balanced for the first time in my life.

Learn as much as you can so you can be sure you are making a truly informed decision.
