really rude comments from nurse!!!

OK...
Yesterday I went for my pre op at the hospitable, filled out tons of papers, blood pressure,ht , wt etc, the nurse who ddi this was lovely, explained all my instructions to me and was so kind and compassionate.
Then I had to go to another room for blood work, well this nurse just literally freaked me out, I did not care that it took ages to find a vein and it was really painfull to draw blood, thats ok, I realize sometimes it can be hard.
She asked what my surgery was for, I told her LAVH WITH BSO, NO biggie she is a professional care giver right!
she then looked me up and down and told me that "I COULD KISS MY CUTE LITTLE FIGURE GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!!!"
You will gain a ton of weight!!! I was in pure shock at this point I could not open my mouth!!!!!!!! then she said I guess you will be on hormones, well I could never take hormaones I dont want to grow a beard!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was shaking at this point, she said she had a hystertcomy last yr, and she had been big all her life and she loves food!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the courage to say well " I eat well, excerise daily, and that is a way of life for me!"
she told me she does not have time for that!!!!!!
I just wanted out, I was so upset all evening, did not sleep, got up at 2.30 am and just started to clean my house!!(IT IS SPOTLESS)
I am still upset and am kinda shaking that a so called professional could speak to anyone like that, I am not a strong person, and I think if all my paper work was not completed and we are all ready to go I would back out of this.
NEED SOME COMMENTS????PLEASE HELP ME,!!!!!!!! ,

Re: really rude comments from nurse!!!

You need to consider the source! You will be just fine in terms of your figure after the surgery. I have friends that have gorgeous figures and had had hysterectomies. They, like you, eat right and exercise. For what it is worth, I lost weight after the hysterectomy and my figure is better in clothes than ever with the bulge in my tummy gone. I believe that she was jealous and for some reason, decided to be unkind. I would be tempted to write a letter to her supervisor informing them of her unprofessional comments and advice.

Re: really rude comments from nurse!!!

Well, if it helps at all, the blood draw staff often are not nurses but just techs trained only to draw blood, with no other medical training. They are surely not GYNs or hysterectomy experts. (I'm not criticizing phlebotomists for this). This lady was not giving a medical opinion, just her own ignorance and possibly her personal experience. In no way was she giving accurate, reliable, or professional advice. She was TOTALLY out of line. I hope at some point, maybe post op so you don't upset yourself, you can make a complaint to her supervisor. She surely should not be in her job position if she says things like that. Do not take her seriously in any way. Try to focus on the more positive aspects and benefits and not her hurtful and inaccurate remarks. She must lack an internal censor to tell her when to keep quiet---so ignore her. I'm sorry you were subjected to that. Best wishes for an easy surgery and recovery.

Re: really rude comments from nurse!!!

Bless you Danni..

may be she was having a bad day, or she was just plain nasty to me for what ever reason, I like to wear nice clothes for work, and I arrived straight from work, who knows,????? I should not care what nasty people say,you would think at my AGE I would not care (45yrs old).
I am tring to relax and stay postive, this is really killing me, the whole body imagine thing, I HAVE always tried to look my best my whole life, and I will continue to take care of myself after wards, its my way of life..
some people are just horrible, and me being me does not want to be "horrible" to her and complain.since I might upset her or get her in trouble!!!
cant change a life time of habits, thank you for your kinds words xoxoxoxo

Some people are complete idiots! Don't let this change things for you, you are doing the right thing and will feel great afterwards. She was probably just jealous of how fantastic you are ( :

Re: really rude comments from nurse!!!

After your hysterectomy and once you have healed, you should walk in there and show her how wrong she was. Sure, she may have gained weight but that is her own fault. Both of my aunts have had hysterectomies and both are still skinny...lol. Apparently this nurse has self esteem issues. And, I'd I were you I would report her. What she said to you was unethical, and what's to say that she doesn't say that to someone else.

Try not to worry, you will be fine. Hang in there...sending warm thoughts and hugs your way

Re: really rude comments from nurse!!!

Well I guess we could all look and be like her through SHEER NEGLECT!
She is just a mere SPEED BUMP in your journey - take no notice .. I am 46 and yes, we shouldn't care what people say .. but we are human too and sometimes words cut deep.

Hold your head high .. maybe walk in there after your recovery when you are looking your fabulous best and give her an "inspirational card" saying something along the lines of ... you too can look this good with a little effort !!! :-)

Reminds me of the reaction of one of my friends who has a weight problem. I mentioned that at least after my hysterectomy, I might finally have a chance at a flat tummy again. She thought that was hilarious and told me that it won't make my fat melt away.

Most of my abdominal swelling has been just that, swelling. I'm about 10 pounds overweight, sure, but I know that my abdomen would be much smaller in the morning than the end of the day. The day my Depo-Provera wore off enough to let the adenomyosis become active again, I went from my "normal" to looking at least 7 months pregnant, I was so swollen I could barely get a decent breath.

And now after the hyster, I'm swelling less and less as time goes by and wake up with a nearly flat abdomen. Don't listen to that woman! She's just jealous. You will have swelling and yes, you might have a more difficult time keeping weight off until your hormones are stable. But the hyster itself should not cause you to gain enormous amounts of weight.
