Change in taste and appetite

Had TVH 4 days ago. Healthy eater before; decided to lift restrictions, felt like I deserved comfort food. The problem is that nothing tastes good and once I start to eat, I lose my appetite. I am not taking pain meds, haven't had any since the surgery. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it go away after a while?

Re: Change in taste and appetite

I still don't have much of an appetite ... and I am going on 7 weeks out .. I am hoping when I go back to work (April 11th) that my appetite will come back !! In the meantime, make sure you take vitamins ... eat small portions of good things ... Don't go without any food !!

Re: Change in taste and appetite

Same thing happened to me. It was 3 weeks before I fully got my appetite back. I am now eating normal again. Not sure if I'm fully happy about it. lol. I was losing weight so fast. But I knew it was a false weight loss cause as soon as I started eating again my weight is normal again. Ah well..

Re: Change in taste and appetite

I lost mine on and off after surgery, didn't even want chocolate!

My relationship with chocolate is back to normal state again now.

After surgery I noticed that I needed more protein, more often. I have never been big on eating much protein, but now if I don't have enough I hit the wall, esp when I am working.

I actually eat some red meat now, whereas before I usually didn't. I carry a protein bar or protein powder in my bag in case I start wilting or miss a scheduled meal. Its very strange but protein and an electrolyte powder drink can make a day and night difference in energy and thought processes.

Re: Change in taste and appetite

Susan, I wonder if thats my problem. I want heavy foods. Maybe it's protein I am craving. I really can't go anywhere so I am stuck with what's in the house and it's kinda slim pickins.

Re: Change in taste and appetite

I didn't have any appetite the first week, jsut ate because I had to with meds. It came back towards the end of the second week, but it has come and gone since.

I've had some setbacks, and changed meds around several times. Not sure if that's contributing.
