New and Discouraged

Hi. I'm hoping to find some information, answers, and support here. From what I've read so far, I think I've come to the right place.

I'll try to keep it short. I saw my gp for bladder and kidney problems. She referred me to an ob/gyn for some fibroids; they feel huge, from my pubic bone to belly button. Gp says I'll need a hysterectomy. I'm 42, and after a lurking a bit, I decided it wouldn't a bad thing. Mentally, if that's what the gyno says I need, I think I'm prepared.

Anyway, It took a month to get the referral, another month for the appointment with the ob/gyn, which was supposed to be next Monday. Today the office called and had to reschedule another 4 weeks out! The last few months I've had terrible pelvic pain, bleeding, kidney pain, headaches, and nausea. I could try to find another doctor, but I'm sort of set on this one doctor. I hope he's worth it. Luckily, this month symptoms were not that bad. Hopefully next month won't be bad either.

For now I guess I should just keep reading so I'm informed when my time comes.

I'm sorry that you find yourself facing a hysterectomy but you'll get plenty of support and there is lots of information here to help you every step of the way.

If you have decided for sure that you will be scheduling a hysterectomy, you can join pre- and post-op members on the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support message board. Start new threads there to ask for support and to ask any questions you have. You'll find helpful information and tips in the Pre-Op Page, too.
