Progesterone

hello ladies...
I did my usual.. I listened to what the dr was telling but couldnt remember what he told me by the time I left...lol
Anyway he said that since my cancer was progesterone resistant.. ( I think I got that right.. ) he wanted to put me on a progesterone pill for about 6 months.. he said I could not take HRT because of my cancer...
So my question to you is.. do you have any idea what the name of a pill like that might be... I would like to research it.. was hoping that someone here might have had some experience with it... I know I could call and ask him.. but I wont see him again until I finish all my radiation treatments... prob the end of Jan...

Sk I am not sure what progesterone pill your doc is talking about. Natural progesterone can either be compounded by a pharmacist or it comes already made by a pharmacutical company distributed under the name of Prometrium. Natural progesterone can be converted to estrogen and testosterone so I am not sure if that is what he is prescibing or not. I am not sure about this but I think I heard Trish talking about the synthetic progesterone not being able to convert so that may be what he prescribing. Did he give you the script yet? It should have a name on it if he did. If he hasnt written it, then a quick call to his office should be fine to get the name of the hormone Sending you GREAT BIG s to get you through those treatments. S

Yeah, Brenda Lee That was me muttering over in a corner.

There are times when natural progesterone is unlikely to be the best choice because it converts into other steroids including estrogen.

The most likely choice is Megace, which combats estrogen receptor cancers and also helps with hot flashes etc. to some extent. But it's primarily to fight cancer.

You will find some threads about megace on the cancer concerns board and if you post there, there might be someone already on it, though I haven't heard anyone talk about it lately.
