Off EVERYTHING..Now what? I'm in HELL!

I'm new to the site, and I'm very excited to have found this wealth of information! I just went off of estratest and wellbutrin, at the same time and I'm having SERIOUS mood swings and hot flashes. Has anyone had any luck with otc remedy's? I had a complete hysterectomy in 2002 and have been on estratest since. My pharmacy quit carrying it and I wasn't too sure about the replacement hormone. I've put on about 50 lbs since then so I don't want something that will slow down losing that excess. Can anyone help please??? Thanks much!

Re: Off EVERYTHING..Now what? I'm in HELL!

Whoa there, that's a lot at once! Were they discontinued both for the same reason, and because your Dr wanted it, or you wanted it---how were you doing on them? Are you trying to stay off hormones, or open to going back on them and/or antidepressants? I wonder if working with your Dr to start back on some HRT wouldn't be a place to start, unless you can't take it any more? No wonder you feel bad, off BOTH those things. By complete hysterectomy, do you mean they took your ovaries, too? Sorry to ask so much but I'm not sure what direction you are wanting to head as far as meds or not.

Re: Off EVERYTHING..Now what? I'm in HELL!

yep took ovaries too. My pharmacy quit carrying the estratest and the replacement(estradol?)looked a little scary. The wellbutrin I weened off, every other day then third day, I had one about 3 days ago.Long story but I had to go out of town due to an illness in the family, I was stuck in Florida unexpectedly for a little better than two weeks, my father in law was dealing with cancer, sudden and unexpected, so the last thing I was thinking of was my wellbutrin, the hormones, I certainly thought about them in the 80 degree heat! flashes were CRAZY! so now it's been 3 weeks with no hormones, I feel like a weakling for thinking of going back on them, but holy cow, I dont' want to go to jail for murdering my husband for chewing with his mouth open either!!! I'm looking for alternatives, my doc is pretty cool, he'll prescribe what I ask him, if he agree's of course. I really don't want to go back on any form of anti depressents, I've gained 50 lbs since my hysterectomy in 2002, which is very frustrating so I'm not wanting anything that will inhibit weight loss. WHEW I feel better now! Way open to suggestions!

Re: Off EVERYTHING..Now what? I'm in HELL!

You aren't a weakling to think of going back on hormones. You were on Estratest, so, estrogen plus testosterone. So I'm not sure why you would not want to try at least estrogen again, if you did OK on one before. I'd think that would be where I'd start if you wanted to try one item at a time. Did you feel OK on Estratest? If so then wouldn't you want to just try the equivalent, or at least the estrogen part, first? Also, Wellbutrin usually doesn't cause wt gain like some of the other antidepressants can. If that was why you are avoiding it. I'm just thinking if the hormones worked, do that again, as close as possible. For alternatives I have not tried OTCs but Estroven is a popular one and some ladies say it helps them. You could try it and see what you think. I'm sorry things have been so stressful, I hope you can feel better soon.

Re: Off EVERYTHING..Now what? I'm in HELL!

I've only been on the wellbutrin for a couple years. Before that I was on effexor for about 4 years, before that prozac. Just tired of being on all that stuff. At this rate, estragen is just gonna have to be part of my life, period. I'm gonna have to do some more research on estradol. Do you know if estratest would cause the beard I'm working on? lol..HORRIBLE! that's only been in the last couple years and I've been on estratest since 2002, so I don't understand that. I'm a stress eater and my son went straight from high school graduation to Iraq in March of 2002, he was there when the first bombs dropped, that's where the bulk of my weight came from, oreo's and lucky charms helped keep me awake so I could watch the news 24/7! Yep, hysterectomy was April of 2002. WADDA YEAR! Enough of the whining. I just need help, and you guys look like where I need to be. Thanks again!
