Been in natural menopause for several years

I am 57 and already into natural menopause for 4-5 yrs now. I am having a rectocele repair and also removing my uterus and overies. I will have this done in July. I am wondering since I am already into menopause will I have any effects from removing my overies? I am thinking that they are no longer working anyway so I'm not getting any benefits from them so might as well end the chance of getting ovarian cancer. Is my thinking correct?

Actually, the ovaries secrete trace amounts of hormones even during menopause. So once the ovaries are removed, you can experience symptoms of surgical menopause. It has happened to several ladies on the site!

I expected no change but guess the girls still were working after all. Worse symptoms, and new ones. Not everyone goes through that but I certainly did.

I'm also 57 and had a hysterectomy in December, leaving the ovaries. My hot flashes have been much worse since surgery--I wake up sweating several times during the night and have a major flash every half hour or so during the day. I had an abscess after surgery, so it wasn't clear for a while whether infection was causing me to be thermostatically impaired, but it does seem to be hormonal. If it doesn't work itself out by the time warm weather gets here, I'm going to see about hormones or I'll never survive the summer.

I would think since you left your ovaries the surgery would not have affected you in a negative way. Why did you leave the ovaries?
I have had breast cancer 2 times (26yrs ago and 3 yrs ago) I ended up with a bi-lat MX with recon this time. I cannot take hormones. I am on clonidine (HBP meds) for my hot flashes. It does not do away with them but makes them more tolerable. Foods I eat can make mine worse. I do want my ovaries taken. One less chance of another cancer. I am concerned about what it may do to me.
