Question - 60 yrs old , HRT and NO energy again 60 yrs old , HRT and NO energy again

Hi folks, I had my hysterectomy in 1997 and began HRT shortly after. I finally settled with Cenestin which proved to work wonderful for me. In 2005 I had Bariatric surgery and because of the absorption issues had to raise the amount of Cenestin I was taking. But all in all everything was fine.
About 6 months ago, my husbands company changed insurance and Cenestin was not on the approved list and my dr changed me to Premarin. After 3 months symptoms began to flare up. Hot Flashes, Insomnia, Dry Skin, Hair was thinning, and a complete lack of energy. I struggled through this for a few more months till it dawned on me that as a Bariatric patient I could not absorb the kind of tablet the Premarin was.
I was then put on the Estradiol patch, 2 weeks ago. Within 3 days the hot flashes were just about gone and I am sleeping through the night. YEAH!
What I would like to know from any of you... Does it take longer for hormones to help in the other areas.. such as energy? Can I expect that to come back too? I have to force myself to do anything, and that just is not me. Any comments would be welcome... thanks

Re: 60 yrs old , HRT and NO energy again

Yes, it can take some time for the estrogen to really work in the body. Exercise, 7 hours of sleep and good diet helped me have more energy.

Thank you so much for the reply. Ive not noticed too many long time ago surgeries, so I wondered if anyone would respond. That is all I needed to hear... TIME.. such a small word, but such a huge thing.

Re: 60 yrs old , HRT and NO energy again

Sometimes insurance companies will cover certain medications which are not on "their" list. If you are suffering and your Dr fights for you it may get covered. I would call them and push to see if you can get it covered. My hrt is covered under a "non preferred drug" status. I pay the highest copay but it is worth it to feel my best. Also my dose is higher than they "allowed" so my dr had to make a special request (bc it was first denied) and they ended up covering it all under one copay. I feel very lucky.

Hope you start feeling better.
