Hysterectomy for adenomyosis
I have been diagnosed with Adenomyosis and the doctor I went to did the ultrasound himself with me and showed me what he could see which was a huge help! Hysterectomy is the only treatment here, the question being whether to leave or take the ovaries/cervix. I am opting to have them look laproscopically at the ovaries and if there isn't any endometriosis or abnormalities there I will go ahead and keep them since hormones I feel are important to keep naturally, I'm 47 so a few years maybe to go before menopause.
MRI is a good option if the ultrasound comes back with uncertainty, I had a second opinion and just with exam he was able to confirm adenomyosis. Periods were getting so painful I couldn't bear another one so my surgery is happening this Wednesday so I'm excited about that because my pain is so severe otherwise. Aygestin really helped me with the pain and slowed down bleeding and am using that until surgery to help stay off pain killers!
I went to a doctor here in Houston who was one of the first to do and study ablation, he has said for those of us (me included) who are in the 5% of ablations that are unsuccessful they have evidence that this leads to endomyosis, it's due to the failed ablation is what I am being told and hysterectomy is the way to get rid of it, pain will only get worse. No one ever told me that is the ablation failed I was susceptible to the edenomyosis!
Hysterectomy I feel is best option IF you aren't wanting any more children which I am not.
