dVH/RALH: Oh no, I have my period before surgery

hey girls, I never thought of this before and I think I may have a problem. I just started getting my period today and my surgery is scheduled next Weds, May 4th. I spoke with the surgical coordinator today and she said she would touch base with me "the end of the week" or next Mon...!!! Does anyone know about this!!?? Is it really possible that my surgery would be cancelled due to my period..? I never gave it a thought!! She also said that my doctor booked thru July and I would probably have to wait if its cancelled !! I can't wait any longer. I have a uterus the size of a 4 mos preg and 5 huge fibroids and smaller cysts. If anyone knows a case like this, please response. Very upset.

I can't imagine that would cause them to cancel your surgery. I didn't have my period when I had my LAVH but I started the morning of my previous thermal ablation and the Dr just did a D&C first and then did my ablation. I have seen posts from other Sisters on here that did have their periods and their Dr's went ahead with their surgeries.

I would call your Dr's office and ask them.

It may be a personal prefernce of your doctor becuase I was due for my period when I had surgery and my dr said it wouldn't be an issue, just that it would be the last one i had. I didn't start but i would plead with them. you should be at the tail end of it. Good Luck.

My period started the day of. No problem. It'll be the last period you'll have!

My period also started the day of my surgery and when I mentioned it to the nurse she just told me that it would be last one that I would ever have. After that, I realized that surgery usually involves blood and that my period shouldn't affect anything and I was correct. Good luck.

If they had waited for my period to end, I would have bled to death first. I had very heavy bleeding during mine. In fact, I also had retrograde bleeding, which is bleeding out of my fillopian tubes. My whole abdomen was filled up with blood when they went in.

So I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just celebrate.

I, too, was on my period when I went in for my surgery. I just wore a pad into the OR and they took it off after I was asleep. The nurses just brought my undies to me in recovery. No problem.

My doc told me it was no big deal if i was on my period ..

I was in the middle of mine at surgery time, and of course it was extremely heavy. I had told the doc ahead of time and she said no problem, we'll make it go away, LOL. And they did!
