'typical' start of HRT? LAVH BSO

I know every one is different, (and I will ask my Dr at pre-op) but how soon after sugery (me, LAVH BSO, 06-01-11) do you start HRT? (and I know I'm thinking 'too hard' about this)

This is why, I grew hearing how my G. Gramma, when goin' through 'the change' as my Gramma put it, she and my Grampa woke one night to his Mom (my GG) standing at the foot of their bed with a butcher knife and how 'crazy' she got for a period of time... (she never did like my Gramma ) She was also institutionalized for a few yrs after that..........

THEN, about 12-14 yrs ago MY Mom decided that HRT was a 'bad thing' and stopped 'cold turkey'...............There are things she said to me that I can never forget, hard to forgive, she was like a rabid dog (sorry mom)

I really DON'T wanna be 'that woman', as much as I am lookin' forward to my surgery, I am concerned about that 'part' of the 'after'..................T

Talk to your dr. Some start right after the surgery, others wait. If you have endometriosis, some drs like the patient to wait for a while after surgery and then start on both estrogen and progesterone (balances the E, and good to have if you had endometriosis).

I started 4 days after my surgery as my E was already low and I didn't have any reserve. Some wait 6 months, others start in the hospital. If you have a lot of estrogen stored in your body, you may not notice symptoms of low estrogen for a while as that estrogen is being used. If you are thin, low in estrogen to begin with, you may start sooner.

It's a decision for your and your doctor to make since we are all so different. It's good to discuss the options for HRT before you have the surgery so that you are prepared for what to do afterwards.

A patch was placed on my backside shortly after I was moved to my room from recovery. While I no longer use the patch, 12 years later I am still using hrt.
