Preop appointment today ...3rd endo surgery, possible bowel resection
Today is my preop appointment with my Endo Specialist. I hope and pray this will be the last surgeryI I had a TAH in 08 for adenomyosis, they found endo and ahesions. This last december I had BSO and cleanup from endo. The only pain relief i had from that was while I was hooked on the PCA pump.
I hope Dr. <> can get all of this out of me. I am facing the possiblity of having a bowel resection which really terrifies me.Has anyone had one? My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday the 18th.

(((Leigh)))
How did your appointment go? I hope well!
I know it is frustrating to need multiple surgeries for the same diagnosis! I wish I had seen my own endo specialist sooner as maybe it would have eliminated at least one of the surgeries!
I can share with you that since my surgery with an endo specialist three years ago, I have done very well so hopefully you will, too!
I wish you all the best and hope you will keep us posted! in there!

Re: Preop appointment today ...3rd endo surgery, possible bowel resection
I had a colon resection in Feb, which is when they diagnosed it as endo. I had a great colon surgeon and an ovarian oncologist who did a great job, and the colon is doing great (they took the L ovary too). My ovary was stuck to the colon which had narrowed due to scar tissue, but they didn't know that ahead of time and are not endo specialists so I'm not certain they even knew what to look for when they were in there in terms of endo. The recovery was frustrating at times but overall way better than I imagined, and the surgery prevented a colon disaster down the road. I am working on figuring out the endo now (I feel like things have been a little backwards for me). Let us know how the appointment went!

Re: Preop appointment today ...3rd endo surgery, possible bowel resection
Preop appointment went fine on Wednesday. He called me today on a Saturday saying he was studying my records and he wants me to have an IVP again to get good pics of where my ureters are now. If it gets scheduled monday how on earth will he get it by 5 am Wednesday morning?
I find myself more anxious this surg than the last. Partial normal pre/sug jitters. Part the realization that i will have major pain before the healing starts. I hope that I dont need the resection , i have this fear of waking up with a colostomy bag. The other part is uncertainty if i am making the right choice. I thought the surgery in Dec would be my last ( it was harder than I expected pain wise) . My doctor sent me to a pain management doc for pain relief. He is sending me home with dilauded...now granted I have been taking Norco since last Oct...does that seem like a lot to get sent home with?

Re: Preop appointment today ...3rd endo surgery, possible bowel resection
They always say that a colostomy bag is a possibility, but they do try to avoid that as much as possible especially if it is a planned surgery (so you have done the bowel prep, etc). That is one of the pro's of a planned bowel surgery, since they are much more in control of things than if you were to show up in an ER with a perforated or obstructed bowel. It sounds like they are covering all the bases to prepare you for every scenario and you may not even need to have the resection- try to remain positive yet prepared (easier said than done, right?)!

I truly understand your ordeal and trauma. I exactly went through the same though this was my 2nd surgery after going thru SAH 2 years ago I still had constant pains on my right side and doctors thought it was due to cyst on my ovaries so just last week I went for BSO.I was then told that I had Endo.

Re: Preop appointment today ...3rd endo surgery, possible bowel resection
Ahh my first post and I'm nervous.
I had my TAH on May 10 (2011) and I had a bowel resection as well due to Stage 4 endo.
I completely understand your fears. I had my RE, gyn. oncologist, urologist, and colon rectal surgeon all in my surgery to make sure it went well.
When I woke up I reached for the colon bag but it wasn't there.
I was terrified but really the recovery wasn't too bad. I was in the hospital for 5 full days and 4 nights. It was a vertical incision that is about 7 inches long. 3 days with the PCA pump, 2 days on percocet. All in all it was a much smoother transition/recovery than I expected.
Good luck! I hope that you don't have to have the resecetion but if you do then we are here!
