Hormone levels.

So, I've been struggling with flushes, nausea, weight gain (even though I hardly eat), etc, etc along with still having discomfort and intermittent left sided pain following my TAH on 17th Feb.

Went back to docs today for the results from my bloodwork to be told it's all fine. I have the numbers but they mean nothing to me.

TSH 3.65
FSH 5.5
LH 2.1

Does this mean anything to anyone.

When I asked how does it explain the way I feel I was told, it's early days, I've had major surgery, my ovaries and tubes have been manhandled and if it continues for another couple of months come back, WOW that made me feel better, not.........

Don't know what normal ranges or what to effect next.

Anyone have any idea if these are infact normal or should I be asking for them to checked again in a couple of months.

Thanks princess.

Re: Hormone levels.

It's hard to tell what's a normal range because different labs have different "normal" ranges based on the actual test they do (the numbers don't compare from one lab to another).

Ask your doctor for a copy of the report. It should have the normal ranges listed on the report and go from there. (Just tell him you want a copy for your own records, they shouldn't have a problem with that at all).

Re: Hormone levels.

ladyrhi

I got a copy of the report so that I could tell OHU the results but it only gives the number of the result on other corresponsding number. so for FSH eg it say Serum FSH level = 5.5 iu/L

So not much to help, wouldn't mind but OHU and a nurse I know both said they'd bet money it was my thryoid - guess I should have taken that bet.

Re: Hormone levels.

LH and FSH are not thyroid. They are hormones to ascertain whether you are in menopause. The doctor's office should print out the results WITH THE RANGES on them. I generally have to ask.

TSH is thyroid, but to understand it you will need the full panel.

If you are concerned, see an endocrinologist to interpret those test results and do a full panel.

You can do a yahoo/google search to see if there are any general ranges.

Good luck. I do think your doctor told you the best advice. Your insides have been literally manhandled and it may take time for things to adjust. But if you remain concerned, go back to this doctor or the specialist.
