Do all hormones fluctuate?

I feel like I have been having a lot of hormonal changes going on lately and I wonder if it could be because of hormone fluctuations. Out of everything, I just have one tiny little ovary left and I imagine it just wearing itself out trying to keep the my system going.:-)

In the last two months I have had hot flashes come and go (lasted two weeks) tender breasts (lasted about three weeks) and a terrible cystocele-feeling (that seems to be gone now). Anyway, I am away from my reg. doctor so went to a drop in place and had some blood work up done. I had basically everything checked that could be checked and dozens of things came back normal, but for these things:

1) High prolactin (42)
2) Low-ish Tyroid (not low enough to merit medication, I was told)
3) blood sugar on the higer side of normal (5 and 6)

This drop in doctor was all about doing a body scan (not a MRI) to find tumors or something based on the prolactin results. I am more prone to think I am just really out of whack hormonally right now. Can hormones like estrogen fluctuate and cause a 'moderately high' prolactin reading (I read on the internet that it is usually nothing to worry about unless it goes over 100.) Could lowish Tyroid cause moderate prolactin? I guess my other hormones looked normal...but I felt more normal when I got the blood test - it was weeks ago when things seems to be going up and down.

Any info would be helpful. The internet is especially confusing when searching for this type of thing.

Re: Do all hormones fluctuate?

Low thyroid can cause problems. Keep in mind that there really is no one set level where we will all feel the same. At one point my thyroid was borderline, still in range, but taken in context with the T-3 and T-4, doctor said the thyroid needed some support. It wasn't out enough to go on prescription medication, I was started on a supplement called Thyrosol. Made a big difference in how I was feeling. Flash forward a few years later, was having some problems again, thyroid came out lower than usual. I asked the doctor if I could add one more pill daily, she said yes. Levels came back up.

Sorry, I don't know anything about prolactin. You can do a search of the forums here and see what others have said about this. You can also check our Resources database
