Birth Control as HRT?

I just joined, but have been a reader for several years. I had a LSH Dec '09, and kept my ovaries. They no longer work, so I'm on Vivelle Dot Patch 0.1mg (to prevent hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, memory loss, anger). I've tried everything to get them to stick right, and they don't, and I never feel like I'm getting enough estrogen. They also don't last more than 3 days (supposed to last 3.5 days).

Since I'm so young, it's easier for me to get birth control pills than the HRTs, and I was wondering if anyone has been on birth control instead of HRTs. Does "the pill" have enough estrogen? Does it matter what "kind" of estrogen is in it? What about the progesterone (good or bad)?

I was on a low bcp and I felt like I was going to be ok on them but the last 5 days of my pack has just been awful! I went back to having menopause symptoms full force. My sis-in-law and i believe that some pills have estrogen then the others are more lke sugar pills. I dont know if hats right but thats how i feel because it took a few days and i started to feel better. Then the last few pills back to feeling like crap! I'm going in Monday to get some sort of estrogen. Gyne won't start me on anything oral because she doesn't believe I need it because I'm only 35 and have ovaries. Plus my hormone levels show normal but that's not how I feel. Ugh! Im also on effexor, mag/cal, and ambien. The ambien hasn't been working since the menopause symptoms kicked in again.

I hope it works for you but I haven't run into anybody on here yet who has been on bcp. Good luck!

Have you tried your patch on your backside? I've found they stick much better there. I put mine higher up but lower than my panty line. Also, see if you can find a clear Tegaderm bandaid (made by 3M) to put on top. I have used those with great success when a patch has started to lift or I know I'll be swimming a lot.
