I am HRT "stupid"

I need some direction about hormones. I really don't know
where to start. I am having a TVHBSO on the 27th and my doc said that I would wake up with an estrogen patch on.

Any information would be so appreciated.

Re: I am HRT "stupid"

My doctor told me the same thing...then I started asking all kinds of questions. There is a great book called "Screaming to Be Heard" by Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet. It has been the best source of information for me. I was totally against any kind of hormone replacement and wanted to learn as much as I could before my surgery. Well needless to say, I've learned a lot. I still believe that hormone replacement isn't for everyone and you have to make the decision that is right for you.
I ended up going with HRT...the Vivelle Dot patch .1mg (its estradiol). Its been a little over 4 weeks and so far so good. No menopause symptoms at all.

Read as much as you can about HRT. This site has lots and lots of information and lots of wisdom from amazing women.

Best of luck to you and if you want any additional information....keep asking!!

Re: I am HRT "stupid"

I am trying to learn all there is too. I talked to my Doctor and he refused to give me any hormones until I was two weeks from surgery. He said that HRT increases blood clots and until I was up and around he didn't recommend them. I talked to him about Bio-identical HRT, and he said while he would be happy to prescribe them if that is what I wanted, he preferred more tried and true methods. I decided on pills, because I already take a couple and whats one more. I also like to know my dosage is steady. I will preface this with admitting I am one of those people who loved being on the pill. My weight stayed great, my moods were calm. He is using the same brand of estrogen that my pill contained - just a much lower dose and without progesterine - no uterus. I start tomorrow, I will let you all know how it goes.

Re: I am HRT "stupid"

No your HRT not stupid. I had a hysterectomy over a year ago. Hormones are messy and sometimes they work and...sometimes they don't. I have decided to go completely off of them. I have tried all different forms, nothing has worked and I feel worse than I did before my hysterectomy.
