Helpful hints for ladies going into surgery. If I'd known...

... ahead of time, I would have had a soft toilet seat.
I had my surgery a little over three weeks ago. I've learned alot. The books that helped the most were: "The Essential Guide to Hysterctomy," by Lauren Striecher MD and "The Change Before the Change," by Laura E. Corio MD. Other things that I found helpful: Eat bran the day previous to sugery. (Wish I'd known that. I wouldn't have eaten pork chops the night before.) Also, snack on some Activia. It got me regular after the anti-biotics I had to take. I also took the initiative to shave my arms. Believe me, you'll have IVs and band aids taped all over you and if you shave, when the adhesives come off, that's one less thing that will hurt. When I got home, my sister in-law-called and said for me to sleep in a recliner, which I did for a week and a half. Getting in and out of a regualr bed is difficult. Last of all, I asked my husband to please, buy that soft toilet seat. ahhh......
