Anyone take Synthroid for thyroid and Hormone Replacement?

I had thyroid cancer 10 years ago and have to take 88 mcgs of Synthroid for the rest of my life. I am about 2 weeks post-op and awaiting my 3 week post-op checkup for my pathology report to see how bad my endometriosis is. Hence waiting to see if hormone replacement will be for me.

Anyone know how synthroid/thyroid issues and hormone replacement work together or don't they? I would REALLY hate to get my thyroid levels messed up cause that SUCKS.

Re: Anyone take Synthroid for thyroid and Hormone Replacement?

I take synthroid for autoimmune thyroid problems, and I'm on HRT. My TSH has shifted a bit lower but not enough to change my dose. I know I've read other posts where ladies have had to adjust their dosages, so I imagine your Dr will want to check labs to see if you need changes. But so far after several months I seem to be stable. Good luck.

Re: Anyone take Synthroid for thyroid and Hormone Replacement?

Hi

Since thyroid is a hormone, and our endocrine systems work really hard to stay in balance, then anytime one hormone level changes, it can cause our other hormones to change too, in an effort to provide us what we need.

It is important that you get your thyroid levels checked about 6 weeks after any HRT dose is adjusted. Not taking HRT doesn't solve the problem, it only makes it worse.

Work closely with your endocrinologist, making small adjustments in only one hormone at a time, and hopefully you will do fine.

Keep us posted!
