quick question concerning internal radiation

hi ya'll...haven't been around for a while...computer was on the blink...finished external radiation and chemo a month ago...getting my strength and appetite back finally...lost about 27 lbs. since my surgery in august...will probably gain it back through the holidays...my question concerning the internal radiation is this...they want to do the cervical implant then leave me hooked up to the machine in the hospital for 72 hrs. straight...i don't feel very good about it and i know there's alternatives like having a high dose radiation which takes only a few minutes and it's done on 3 or 4 different days...i've been round and round with my dr. but my mind and body says i should look for another way to do this...what has your experience been with this for those who have had it? i'm seriously getting tired of the whole CANCER thing and my nerves are about shot...if you have any info, please let me know...thank you in advance

quick question concerning internal radiation

Tammy, even though I didn't go through it, I can understand your worries pertaining to such a long duration for treatment. I'm sure one of the more experienced women will be along shortly. I wanted to send you a and tell you that it is good to hear from you!

quick question concerning internal radiation

Hi there Tammy my internal radiation was the long duration kind. When I was first booked to have it I was told 24 36 hours but it ended up being 17 hrs. I was so scared in the weeks before, I just didnt know how I was going to do it. With the help of valium, pain killers and the sisters here, I made it through. And you know what ? It really isnt as bad as you think, I promise.
But in saying that, there is the high dose kind and I know of others who had it. I did look into it but my radiologist only does the low dose treatment. I am actually quite glad that I had this one as it was over and done.
I know what you feel about getting sick and tired of the whole cancer thing. ME TOO but you will survive and it will be all over soon. Much love always x x

quick question concerning internal radiation

Hi,
I had the low dose in the hospital. Mine was for 24 hours. As with Robyn, the help of valium and painkillers get you thorugh. the worst part as I recall, was the terrible gas feeling, because they block you so that you don't go to the bathroom, because you cannot move from that position. Check on that time, I have never heard of an implant staying in for so long. The longest I heard of was 48hours. Please let us know how you are doing and feel free to email me.
