Hormones in system???

I just have a question for anyone who would like to answer this one...I just had a TAH with ovaries and tubes removed on 7/12/11 and was immediately placed on premarin 0.9, which was not working. I am now 1 week and 2 days post op and the Dr. suggested me taking one pill in the a.m. and the other at bedtime. All of this due to my symptoms of night sweats and wanting to cry at the drop of a hat which is not my norm. Is this HRT something that has to get into my system for awhile or is it something that I can see results with in say like a weeks' time?

Re: Hormones in system???

Hello!

Yes, it does take time for hormone therapy to reach optimal levels. Finding balance with hormones is especially trying early in recovery as your body depletes the hormones your ovaries made and adapts to the new hormone therapy. It's not unusual at all to have fluctuations in your levels, which causes symptoms. Splitting up the dose between morning and night is effective for some and I hope that proves to be the case for you, too.

You might find it helpful to keep a journal of your symptoms which will be a good written record to show to your doctor. Your doctor can then adjust again, if necessary, to help you feel better. Be sure to give each change a fair amount of time to work--at least a couple of weeks--because changing too frequently can make finding balance more challenging.

Best wishes as you continue to heal!

I just wonder do creams seem to be better than pills? This is all new to me.
