Took the plunge and started ert

Well, ladies I took the plunge and went on ERT starting on Thursday. It is a low dose pill (Estradiol) and and I feel much better. So, I guess technically I can't be on this thread anymore, but wanted to let you know what I did as a follow up.

My hot flashes have been reduced by at least half in frequency, as well as intensity. I have had only a few of OMG-turn-the-fan-on-now flashes. I have way more energy, and the operating my brain through-a-wool-blanket feeling is gone. I have not felt this good since before surgery.

Hugs to all......(((HUGS)))

Re: Took the plunge and started ert

That's great! I hope they continue to help you and keep you comfortable. Estrogen helped with my hot flashes when they were so bad after my surgery. The estrogen helped my sleep and with my moods.

Re: Took the plunge and started ert

Avoiding ERT is great when it works or there's no choice but sometimes it just doesn't work out. I'm grateful hormones were an option when things were bad for me and I'm glad they're working for you. I hope things keep improving for you and I'm glad you found a solution.

Re: Took the plunge and started ert

You are right - and I am grateful that is was an option for me. Part of me still feels as if I am a failure. I always thought that I would do menopause without ERT. BUT that was for natural menopause, and surgical menopause is WAY DIFFERENT. My doc also thought that it would be better for my health (on balance), as I am too young for menopause at 46. I was early peri at best before my surgery.

Thanks for the support. It was a really tough decision for me to do this. But, I am glad I did.
