Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

OK, so my recovery has been as the Doc described it, to the "T": easy. But, I do have a question and my first post op appt isn't for 5 1/2 more weeks. When I walk for any length of time (like around the neighborhood to try to relieve the gas pressure from the surgery) it feel like the stitches for the vaginal cuff seem VERY low. Is that common? My primary concern is with intimacy. Most of the posts I've read, the significant other's can't tell a difference between pre and post op, I'm concerned I'll be so "shortened" that there will be a big difference. Is this common and it takes care of itself, or is the skin so stretchy, that it isn't a problem??

Re: Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

Mattie -

You are still very early in your recovery so things could be feeling low because of swelling.

Initial recovery takes 2/4 to 6/8 weeks with full recovery taking 6 months to a year. Give yourself a bit more time before you get worried about this.

Duh, I hadn't even thought about swelling might cause it to be lower that what the "final product" will be like! Good to know! Thanks!

Re: Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

I felt the same thing that early in my recovery. I'm almost 8 weeks now and things feel much better. It is the swelling from the surgery and things healing. Ice packs help you feel better. I have been using them until this week.

Good luck with your recovery!

Re: Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

Hmmm... how do you feel the stitches or know how low they are? I can't tell anything about where my stitches are or that I even have them.

Re: Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

I have the same question as the above. How do you know how low or what?? My big problem is my bladder, it just simply aches. But I would love some more info on the vaginal cuff. Ladies, I ain't gonna lie, I have my six weeks marked on the calendar & have "warned" the DH!! LOL

Re: Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

Here's an article Vaginal Cuff, what is it that might help you.

If you retained your cervix you don't have a vaginal cuff.

As for knowing if they are low some ladies sneak a peek at things with mirrors, others just feel the stitches during their normal healing.

Give it time, things change a lot in the first few weeks.

Re: Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

For me, I haven't sneaked a peek, I just feel them after walking. It just gets a little scratchy, not necessairly irritated, because I didn't walk that far, but I was trying to get the gas moving the first few days after the surgery and that's when I felt them.

They feel like they're in line with my pubic bone, but hearing that this is a part of the swelling makes a lot of sense and that it gets better and is typical, makes me feel a lot better!

Re: Vaginal cuff stitches seem low??

Mine were low, right at the opening, at times. As said by others, after the swelling settled, the cuff was exactly where it was supposed to be.

If I did too much, they were low again, reminding me to get back on the couch! :-)

In the end, as is well, no problems what so ever with sex.

inva,

That's exactly what I wanted to hear - no problems with sex. At this point, DH couldn't be more than 2 inches long! HA!
