Keeping my ovaries but how do they know if ovaries are ok???

I do have very cystic ovaries but according to ultrasounds they look fine (except cysts as I stated). Could the ovaries be diseased and not show up in the ultrasound? Would the doctor be able to tell if the ovaries are ok while he is removing the uterus?

Re: Keeping my ovaries but how do they know if ovaries are ok???

My doc told me she couldn't be absolutely sure if my ovaries were fine until she got in there.

My doc did CT's & ultrasounds. Ultrasound said I had a cyst on one ovary. After surgery, doc told me my ovaries were fine and I got to keep both. There was NO cyst on either................so IMO, no "tests" are completely reliable.

The Dr. will be able to tell if the ovaries are ok and pose no risk once he/she is in there. Like Mileena my Ultrasound showed a cyst on my right ovary with my left being fine and once my Dr. got in there and saw my ovaries, they both came out. Good luck too you.

Re: Keeping my ovaries but how do they know if ovaries are ok???

Cysts on the ovaries can grow and shrink fairly quickly. What you see one day probably will be different in a week. I had no cysts show up on my u/s, but the dr found a large one on my left ovary in surgery. He removed the cyst but left the ovary. To be on the safe side, my dr did a biopsy. If they would have found anything in the biopsy they would have had to go back in and take out the ovaries, but since he didn't think it was anything he left them in. He said the second surgery would have been much easier than a hysterectomy and since he didn't see an issue he didn't want to remove a probably healthy one.

Hope that helps some.
