27 Years old and having an hysterectomy

Hi All,
I'm 27 and due to have an hysterectomy on the 5th September. I have had problems from the age of 14 I have tried so many meds, injections and operations I cant list them all any more. I have Endo, PCOS and I had cervical Cancer 2 years ago. I have tried everything my concultant had a case confrense because of my age 1 needed 3 consultants to sign off on it and agree that it was my only option remaining. After an hour of them trying to read through my notes and write down all the treatments I have had they hadn't finished so even they gave up and agreed that I had no options remaining.
Can any 1 give me and advice on how to deal with the recovery as I am so young for this op and the fact that I have 3 small children. My hubby hass managed to take alot of time off work to look after me. Can any1 give me any advice. All tips will be greatfully received.

Re: 27 Years old and having an hysterectomy

Hi!I am also 27 years old with 2 small children(ages 8 & 4).I had a vaginal hysterectomy 7 weeks ago today.I honestly think it was the best thing I could have done for myself.I had adenomyosis & endometriosis. My recovery was pretty easy but then again I didn't have any external incisions. The best thing I can tell you is to walk as tolerated. That helped tremendously with the gas pains.Rest and drink lots of water.Make sure you have a small pillow for the ride home to put between you and the seatbelt.

The only pain that I am experiencing now is from an ovarian cyst.Which I guess I can deal with. The pain from my adenomyosis was unbearable.

I wish you the best with your surgery & recovery!

Re: 27 Years old and having an hysterectomy

Sorry that you are facing this surgery at a young age, but know you are not alone! I'm only 33 and having mine next week, also because of a history of cervical cancer. Have you posted on the Cancer Concerns forum? There are a lot of women on there who have been through exactly what you are facing and are waiting to help!

I can't offer any advice about recovery since I haven't been there yet, but you have found the right place.

Many hugs,
Cynthia

Re: 27 Years old and having an hysterectomy

Hi! Im 24 and had my hysto 4weeks ago. I have no kids and am in menopause due to having both overies out. Anyways.... I ordered some books. One i found on here under reccomended books, called Sudden Menopause, has been helping a lot. The author was 26 when shen had her surgery due to cancer. It breaks down everything your body is going thru and options to help with the symptoms as well as things to ask your doctor. Itd really helped me to understand what my body is going thru. It may be something you want to try. And your hubby can read it also so he understands better.

Re: 27 Years old and having an hysterectomy

I'm so sorry that you have been going through this and are running out of options.

As far as advice on recovery, it is hard to say. I think a lot of that depends on the type of surgery you are going to have. There are quite a few different types. I can only speak on the abdominal procedure.

This is the most invasive type that I know of and recovery can last awhile. I was personally off work for 2 months, but everyone is different. You will need to make sure that you have plenty of help around you for at least the first couple weeks. I had strict orders from my doctor: no bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, or pulling. Also, you will need to walk as much as possible. This helps not only with gas pains, but also helps prevent blood clots and you don't get all stiff and sore from laying in bed too long.

I think that recovery will probably be easy for you since you are so young. We tend to bounce back faster. Again, everyone is different. Just follow doctors orders and accept any help that is offered. Take your time healing. You only have one chance to do it right!

Best of luck to you.

Re: 27 Years old and having an hysterectomy

Hi I'm so sorry you are going through this... I had my Hysterectomy May of last year and for me it was the best choice I could of made.. Recover for me was hard ( i also have two kids) only because I don't know how to sit and let others care for me my only advice is to take it very easy and remember to breath and remember it will get better... I hope all goes well for you
