Problems with hrt?

It has been 2 months since my TAH. I too had endometriosis and it was also the 2nd cyst found on my ovaries, Due to the conditions and severity found when they opened me up I had to have a TAH. Since I still had some hormones existing in me after surgery the doctor told me he’d let me decide upon when to start the HRT. It wasn’t until this month the changes popped in with the hot flashes and no sleep and different person who was no longer me appeared. That was not what I expected to happen but it did and scared the bejesus out of me. My hormones were gone and I had to start on HRT. I first started on the patch Vivelle-dot and had a severe allergic reaction to the adhesive, broke out in hives, and my blood pressure was elevated to the point I couldn’t keep the numbers down.
Strike one.

So 2nd round I was then put on the syringe compound progesterone which caused me severe headaches and mood swings. Progesterone causes sleepiness. Some patients take progesterone just because it gives them a good nights sleep unfortunately for me it kept me wide awake! ugh. I too am having a hard time giving up my tea for it also causes hot flashes but I can not give up my morning tea its my way of waking up!

Round 3 was today. Doctors prescribed Premarin. I start it tonight at bedtime should be interesting if it works.

Anybody else having problems with HRT? I return back to doc in 3 wks for progress report. I feel like a lab rat with all these trials and errors or I'm playing baseball with these hormone replacements!

Re: Problems with hrt?

Yes, sometimes we have to try different HRT's and dosages until we get it right. I was first on a pill form then a patch and then the dosage had to get adjusted. We are all different and trying to mimic what our ovaries made is not easy, since these were perfectly made for us. Doctors and medicine do their best at helping us. Thank goodness there are lots of options.

I could never take progesterone, made me moody and draggy . Again it worked well when my body made it , but the one from the doctors or over the counter did not.

I did well with the patch and some do and some don't. Hopefully, your Premarin will work for you, lot's of women say it works for them.

Hang in there
