Ugh - mine told me I didnt have the option to be awake. I wonder why some will and some wont? Maybe they are worried I would freak out while on the table? I just hate being put under.

Re: Going to be Awake during surgery? Anyone else?

Well I went for my PreOp appt yesterday and the nurse was so reassuring and kind. She said they do a lot of TAH this way and have success.

The epidural will be put in, but will not be like the epidural during a CSection where you cannot move your legs at all. 8-12 hours after surgery/recovery, I will be asked to stand up and walk over to sit in the chair for a bit. The epidural will still be in for pain management but I can walk and feel no pain. The next morning, everything will be taken out and I will try to shower and walk some.

The nurse said that in addition to the epidural I will be given some meds to make me sleepy and relaxed and that I will probably sleep all the way through surgery to recovery and not remember anything.

She answered a lot of my questions and made me feel better. My Dr is renowned for being so good so I trust him. He said he does 2/3 of his TAHs this way. I like knowing that I probably won't vomit after surgery the way I usually do after a general anesthesia.

Thanks for all of the replies to this thread. You ladies rock!
