Re: Catheter removal hurt?

I too was more concerned about the cath than the surgery. They put it in while your asleep. I was also glad to have kept mine in for one day. I went to the bathroom and took mine out myself when I actually could feel my urge to go myself. Didn't hurt a bit!

Re: Catheter removal hurt?

I had never had one before either. They put mine in after I was already under and took it out before I woke up. I never even knew I'd had it. They do come in different sizes and I specifically requested the smallest size since I'd never had one before.

Re: Catheter removal hurt?

I wouldn't recommend taking it out yourself, there's a balloon in there that has to be deflated before it can be taken out.

I'm not sure how you did it yourself, or why you would. It should be taken out by a nurse.

Re: Catheter removal hurt?

Nurse was with me when I asked to have it removed...and in the bathroom when I told her I wanted it out...I asked her if I could take it out and she said to go ahead. I was on the potty when I did it. I didn't pull a balloon out of my hoohaaaa....maybe she did something to the cath when we went to the bathroom to deflate it.
