Will I feel better after surgery?

I am having uterus and cervix removed Sept 27th because of heavy bleeding. It feels like an eternity until then. I do not feel good every day. The bleeding has really made me tired all the time.

Has anyone else felt terrible before surgery and felt like new person after?

Just looking for some hope.

Thanks

Re: Will I feel better after surgery?

I had endometriosis and suffered from debilitating pain and heavy bleeding for 15 years. I had my hysterectomy in May and feel like a completely different person!!

I have never felt better in my entire life and am really enjoying what I like to call, "my second chance at life". I am finally able to do things I enjoy doing and PAIN FREE!!!!

I hope you get some relief from your surgery!! Best of luck to you!!

Re: Will I feel better after surgery?

I had non stop bleeding for the last six to seven months and I am still anemic but working to get my blood count up with three Iron pills a day. I had my hysterectomy last Monday (22nd) and now with all the soreness decreasing everyday, I feel wonderful and you will too. I also had everything taken out and put on a low estrogen gel which is beginning to make me feel really back to my old self. I think this year for me was one of the worst as the bleeding just wouldn't let up and I felt tired constantly, this has been the best choice for me by far. Good Luck with your surgery. don't dread it but look forward to going onto a liberated new life without bleeding.

Re: Will I feel better after surgery?

Thanks for this thread and these comments. I'm going through the same thing. My surgery date is in 9 days. I am hoping I feel like a new person after because I'm pretty worn out now.

Re: Will I feel better after surgery?

Just a note of caution that you may need patience to get to the 'feeling great' bit. It's major surgery, and the body has a lot of healing to do before you feel ready to take on normal life again.

I certainly feel great now, but initially I did have to be more patient than I anticipated.

Good luck and hope all goes very well for you.

Yes, I should have mentioned that in my post! It does take time and you have to be patient and follow orders in order to get to the feeling great part!!

You all know you own bodies, so just take the time that you personally need to heal and don't do more than you can handle!!

Re: Will I feel better after surgery?

I was so glad to read this post. My surgery is the 29th and, I too, feel like it is an eternity away. I feel lousy and tired every day. Are you saying these are normal symptoms to having fibroid tumors?

Re: Will I feel better after surgery?

I am not quite two weeks post-op and feel better than I did two weeks pre-op! I had been in pain and had heavy bleeding for almost a year and I am so happy I had this surgery. Yes, you need to take it easy (I still am) and don't lift anything over five pounds and whatever else your doctor says. Even if you feel fine, listen to the doctor. You only get one chance to heal right, and you will feel so much better if you do it correctly! The laundry and dishes can wait. Someone else can do them!

Good luck and I hope in a few months you feel better than you have in a while!

Re: Will I feel better after surgery?

My hope for all of you is that your hysterectomy will change your life as mine has done for me. Three short weeks after my hysterectomy I felt better than I had in 5 years. I was quite anemic and had tremendous bleeding every month. I have now gone through one cycle (I kept both ovaries) and I have to tell you all that I FEEL GREAT! my hemoglobin was up to 11.8! almost normal at my 4 week appointment. Before the surgery it did not seem to matter how much iron I took I was still anemic. The waiting IS the most emotionally draining part of this experience...hang in there girls
