Anyone else having rude comments?

I had told one of my co workers today that I will be out for a little bit and she had ask me why and I told her I was having a hysterectomy. Then she said well the good news is you won't have anymore kids. I wanted to smack her first off I'm only 28 and second who says that to someone she doesn't even know if I wanted anymore. Sorry had to vent a little but I have had some weird responses even from family members and not much support. I just really can not believe people these days.

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

My standard comment to people who are so insensitive is to ask them why they would make such a hurtful comment. It usually stops them in their tracks and has them backtracking pretty fast.

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

I know what you mean Ive had several that tell me at my age(26) it's a big mistake and I'll regret it. Ive had others try to tell me what was wrong and how to fix it. I've stopped telling people as I'm tired of their responses.

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

people are so ignorant about this surgery and why were truly having it. One of my friends said '"are you really just gonna have surgery bc of your bad periods? I mean its not killing you" so I'm all like sure I'm having a major surgery thats going to disrupt my life and cause me pain JUST because I bleed a lot. Since it was my best friend I explained all the other reasons I'm doing it and she apologized yaddi yadda. Guess there's one in every room. Good luck!

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

People can be amazing. My comment usually is this. Please refrain from voicing your opinion on a subject you know nothing about since most of what you have said is hurtful and untrue. It usually stops right there.

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

I had a lady I know tell my that she knew me well enough to know that in 5 years I'm going to want kids and I won't be able to have them. Now I have never wanted kids and I will be 40 in 5 years. I know women have kids in their 40s but I am positive I won't be one of them. If she really knew me, she would understand that. I try to avoid people like that.

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

Yeah I just gave her a look that told her how ignorant her comment was and walked off. I am sorry if anyone is having a tough time with people it really sucks. We all know what is best for us and I will keep everyone in my prayers

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

Unfortunately, people only have their own experiences to draw from; and if their periods are textbook normal, they can't understand what some of us have experienced.

I have been fortunate to not come across any of these rude or insensitive comments, but I really like Danni's response. Spot-on.

Re: Anyone else having rude comments?

People can be insensitive and speak before they actually realize what they are saying is rude or insensitive. We don't have many relatives around and the one we do have (dad/step mom) she told me well with what you're having done you should be up and back to work in 2 weeks; thats what a girl I work with did and she had cancer. I just looked at her and said I'm going by MY doctors orders, and she said 6 weeks. Guess I won't be seeing them during my recovery; thankfully my mom is flying in to help my husband and my kids for the first week.
