Emphysema and TAH

My TAH (Total Abdominal Hysterectomy) is scheduled for 09/19/2011. I am 47 years old and have a Uterine Fibroid that is 7 cm x 9 cm, causing a lot of pain in my back and lower stomach. I was diagnosed with "mid stage" Emphysema 3 years ago and because of this I have a chronic cough. I am worried about coughing and having breathing issues after surgery. Any advice you can give me about this would greatly be appreciated!

Re: Emphysema and TAH

Keep a pellow on hand to press against your stomach to help stablize when you cough. They're also great for keeping pets off stomachs when they want to cuddle. I have bad allergies and sneeze a lot in the fall, so I expect my pellow will be with me all the time.

Re: Emphysema and TAH

Thanks Liz, I already have my tummy pillow and also have a new little English Bulldog puppy that loves to snuggle but can be a little rough! I will definitely keep my pillow handy!
